Cornmill Cottage, Ludlow (Sleeps 2 - 3)

Cornmill Cottage
Cornmill Cottage

CornMill Cottage is located in the village of Orleton surrounded by wooded hills and lush farming country. It lies midway between the market towns of Leominster and Ludlow with Tenbury Wells seven miles to the East. Orleton has a long history. It is mentioned in the Doomsday Book and is best known for its ancient church, dating from the 12th century, and for its 16th century black and white houses. There is an imposing late 16th century Manor House where tradition has it that Charles II stayed after the battle of Worcester. Orleton was also the birthplace of Adam De Orleton who became Bishop of Hereford, 1317-27 (and later Winchester) and who was instrumental in the deposition and death of Edward II.

Today, Orleton provides a pleasing combination of the old and new. The village offers a wide range of services including village stores and post office, doctor's surgery, village hall and recreation ground. There are also two olde worlde pubs, The Boot and The Maidenhead, both of which provide excellent meals and a wide range of traditional ales.

Cornmill Cottage Garden
A view of the garden

Through it's geographical position Orleton is the perfect base from which to explore the whole of the historic and unspoilt border country. The views are magnificent and the country lanes are quiet and peaceful with very little traffic. Within just 6 miles are to be found the ancient towns of Leominister and Ludlow, the National Trust properties of Berrington Hall, Croft Castle and Bircher Common and Mortimer's Cross - the site of perhaps the decisive battle of the War of the Roses. Amenities within easy reach include golf and race courses, swimming pools, fishing, leisure centres and gardens.

Corn Mill Cottage is located in the grounds of "The Mill" house. "The Mill" was once a water driven Corn Mill which has now been converted into a private residence. The working machinery has long disappeared although a number of former mill stones still remain in the garden.

CornMill Cottage lies next to "The Mill" house on the site of an old barn. It is positioned beside the brook which is a most attractive feature of the property. The dwelling is quiet and secluded, being approached by a private lane, yet is within easy walking distance (a few hundred yards) of the village store and post office and two pubs both of which serve food.

There is ample parking space at Corn Mill Cottage and the secluded garden has a summer house.

Very regretfully no children, but one small to medium, well behaved dog welcome!

Non-smokers only.
